Maine Right to Work Bill

Maine's independent spirit has long been fertile soil for the Right to Work movement.

In fact, when the first bill authorizing compulsory unionism for public employees in the state came to his desk in May of 1977, Maine's Governor James B. Longley, an Independent, vetoed the legislation saying "I cannot approve of legislation which would require that state employees must pay a fee to an organization for the privilege of working for his own government."

That spirit lives on, and Right to Work supporters in Maine continue to advance towards ending forced unionism once and for all in the Pine Tree State.
