Do the right thing: NH House has a choice

The New Hampshire Union Leader, the largest newspaper in the state, editorialized in favor of the State House passing Right to Work today:

"This week, the New Hampshire House will choose whether to stand with Granite State workers, or Granite State unions.

The unions, of course, have always claimed that they stand up for workers. If that were the case, they wouldn’t be fighting so hard to hold on to their monopoly.

New Hampshire law does not require anyone to join a union as a condition of employment. But you will have to pay union dues, one way or another.

The Senate has already approved a Right-to-Work bill, and Gov. Chris Sununu is ready to sign it. It is now up to a handful of undecided Republican representatives.

By joining 28 other Right-to-Work states, New Hampshire would not only send a powerful signal that it is open for business. It would also finally give employees leverage over union bosses.

If you work in a union shop, or in almost any public sector job, you have to pay dues or an “agency fee” for the privilege of having the union represent you. And if you don’t think the union is representing you well ... too bad. Pay up.

Businesses like Right-to- Work because it prevents unions from holding them hostage. Taxpayers should love Right-to-Work because it holds the unions representing government workers accountable.

New Hampshire’s public sector unions have long opposed school choice, pension reform, business tax cuts, and responsible state and local budgets. Republicans on the fence need to decide which side they are on."
