NH can be a standout again

Joseph W. McQuaid, Publisher of the New Hampshire Union Leader newspaper, editorialized for Right to Work:

"The New Hampshire House next week will vote on a bill that would be an extraordinary shot in the arm in helping the Granite State and Gov. Chris Sununu bring new jobs and energy to our economy.

It is the Right-to-Work bill and while it is the law in more and more states with thriving economies, it would make New Hampshire the only such state in the entire Northeast.

Today, we publish one of our “Granite State Debates” with opposing views (for and against) on the subject. We hope all our readers, and particularly those in the General Court, will read them and decide for themselves who makes the better case.

We happen to think it is state Rep. Laurie Sanborn, who points out that a lot of the nation’s bigger companies, including manufacturing firms, consider Right-to-Work before deciding on a new plant.

It reminds us of what the late Gov. Meldrim Thomson Jr. used to say when he was selling businesses on the New Hampshire Advantage.

New Hampshire, he said, is a “standout state in a hard-luck region.”

This bill is an important step in our becoming a standout state once again."
